National association of Nigeria student gives government 21-day ultimatum

NANS , has given the federal government a 21-day ultimatum to resolve the Academic Staff Union of Universities strike action to enable the students return to school. The association warned that students would shut down the country if the government fails to resolve the issues and end the strike within the stipulated time. This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the National President of NANS, Chinonso Obasi. The association called on government and ASUU to have “constructive engagement” to resolve the lingering issues that led to the declaration of the strike. Biafra: Why I can't disclose what my father discussed with Buhari - Ojukwu'son - Daily Post Nigeria

Biafra: Why I can't disclose what my father discussed with Buhari - Ojukwu'son - Daily Post Nigeria Published on August 27, 2017 By John Owen Nwachukwu The son of Igbo leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Emeka Ojukwu Jr., has given reasons he cannot say exactly what his father discussed with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2013. President Buhari had during his public address on his return to Nigeria after spending over 100 days in UK told pro-Biafra agitators that him and Ojukwu agreed that Nigeria will remain unified. Speaking on the meeting, Ojukwu’s son said: “I didn’t attend the meeting. I was not privy to what happened.” “But the indices point to the unassailable fact that the meeting (between Ojukwu and Buhari) held . Why I say so is, remember that Gen. (Olusegun ) Obasanjo assumed power as a democratically elected president in 1999. “I think the time of the meeting must have been the period leading to Obasanjo’s second term. At that time, there were people w...

ASUU STRIKE TO CONTINUE...

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU ) says there is no going back on its on going strike as 80% of the chapter voted for continuation Prof . Biodun Ogunyemi , the union ’s National President , told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) on telephone in Abuja that the strike would be total and indefinite. The union leadership , after its executive committee meeting , declared the strike continues toll the FG yield to it request . Ogunyemi said chronic under-funding of the sector through low budgetary allocation, which went from 11 per cent in 2015 to eight per cent in 2016, did not go down well with the union . He pointed out the failure of government to implement the 2009 agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) as some of the reasons for embarking on the warning strike. The president said that its members were tired of what they described as “government ’s empty promises ’’ in setting up its negotiation team for the review of agreement as consistently reque...
